The Tasmanian Pasture Seed Conference was held in November 2014, in Launceston, Tasmania, aiming to strengthen the state's pasture seed industry. The conference was organised and hosted by the local seed industry, NRE, and Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), featured local and international speakers, and attracted participants from across the supply chain.
Day one included presentations and discussions regarding the state of the Tasmanian pasture seed industry, while day two offered farm tours and a workshop.
A key output of the 2014 Conference was the establishment of the Tasmanian Seed Industry Group Inc. (TSIG).
Another output of the conference was the 2015 Tasmanian Pasture Seed Industry Development Plan, prepared by TIA. This plan was based on the discussions, presentations and findings of the conference, and set out the challenges and opportunities facing the Tasmanian pasture seed production industry.
TSIG is tasked with overseeing the implementation of the Plan.
The Tasmanian Crop and Pasture Seed Industry Plan 2020-23 was developed to build on the content of the original Tasmanian Pasture Seed Industry Development Plan, extending its scope to include vegetable seed production and identifying priority areas for industry development. The 2020-23 Plan was developed in consultation between TSIG, TIA, farmers and agribusinesses.
TSIG secured SIPP Grant funding from the Tasmanian Government’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment to engage a Project Officer to assist the group to implement and resource the Plan.
The new Tasmanian Crop and Pasture Seed Industry Plan 2024-30 was developed by TSIG, including a new priority area of industry Sustainability and Resilience and updated/new strategies.
TSIG hosted the 12th International Herbage Seed Group Conference (‘IHSG 2025’) in Launceston, Tasmania.
